orphanage and the eldery home

13 januari 2016 - Marondera, Zimbabwe

Yesterday we went to the elderly home, we raised money for. It was really impressive. The elderly were excited, they even put their walking sticks aside to show a traditional dance with singing. They loved the stroopwafels we brought, obviously ;). The state in which they live was quite shocking, I am really glad we can build an actual stable kitchen hut. The current one is in the state of falling apart and it is very very primitive(c picture).
Today we went to the orphanage and the kids stole my heart. I have to admit it was quite a battlefield with sixty kids around you and almost all wanting attention. Especially one little girl stole my heart, she followed me everywhere and she was actually able to speak a bit of English! I am glad im not a real grown up yet, otherwise i would have struggled with not taking everyone with me. All the kids live together like a huge family. For example, the older kids(around sixteen years). Help the younger ones with their homework and dressing. When we have to leave, the second shock was real for me. The sweet little girl called me mama and screamed no when we left.
Ooh and a more purely nice thing was me tasting the local fruit and vegetables: were amazingg! For kitxhen eight: we all have to go here for our avocados, never had such great ones!
Lastly i put a picture of a part of our room. All veds in a circle with musquito nets. Talking about musquitos, i need to take my malaria pill. I still havent been sick, although the amount of chicken we are eating starts to be impressive amounts haha.
